Fabrication Lab

2008-2016 (Chicago, IL)

Facilities Manager • Subject Matter Expert

I managed design and fabrication facilities in the Art + Design Department at Columbia College Chicago for 8 years. This included the design lab and smart classrooms across six floors. During my time in the department I helped lead the integration and use of technology in art, design and fabrication curriculum. I trained faculty on hardware, tools and software, keeping them aware of updates and important add-on features. I installed our first laser cutters and 3D printers, including the creation of a step-by-step procedural for guidance and safety protocol.

We completely remodeled two whole floors to develop a new, adaptable learning environment in 2013. It was years in the planning, and a wonderful addition to the department’s service. This allowed us to create a “supershop” by combining our woodworking, metalworking and ceramics studios with modern tools for additive and subtractive manufacturing. It functions as a hybrid teaching/learning space that has creativity, safety and accessibility at the forefront.
